Job Summary:
The Transportation Security Officer is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of passengers, employees, and property within the transportation system. This role primarily involves screening individuals and their belongings, monitoring security equipment, and applying security protocols to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough security screenings of passengers, baggage, and cargo following established procedures and protocols.
2. Operate and monitor security equipment, such as X-ray machines, metal detectors, and explosive detection systems, to identify potential threats.
3. Identify and respond promptly to security breaches, alarms, and other suspicious activities, taking appropriate actions to mitigate risks.
4. Provide superior customer service while maintaining a professional and respectful demeanor during interactions with passengers and colleagues.
5. Communicate effectively with passengers to provide clear instructions and guidance throughout the screening process.
6. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, airlines, and other stakeholders to address security concerns and ensure a coordinated response to incidents.
7. Maintain accurate documentation, logs, and reports regarding security incidents, irregularities, and daily activities.
8. Adhere to established security policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and maintain a secure environment.
9. Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance knowledge of security procedures, threat assessment techniques, and emerging security technologies.
10. Continuously monitor and evaluate security vulnerabilities, providing recommendations for improvements to enhance the overall security posture.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent is required; additional education or training in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field is highly desirable.
2. Must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. national.
3. Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
4. Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security clearance.
5. Possess good judgment and decision-making skills to respond effectively to dynamic and potentially high-stress situations.
6. Strong attention to detail with the ability to detect and identify potential security threats.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
8. Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, procedures, and guidelines accurately and efficiently.
9. Basic computer skills and proficiency in using security equipment and screening technologies.
10. Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy objects for extended periods.
11. Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
12. Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, including criminal history, credit check, and drug screening.
